One of the most impactful coaches in #FalconFootballFamily history!
One of the cornerstones of the turnaround at Scripps Ranch football is hanging up his whistle. Chris Blevins, the architect of the 2021 State Championship offense is stepping down. After many years of coaching at Mira Mesa High School and four at Scripps Ranch High School, Coach Blevins is going to be spending more time with his three young children and wife Kimberly as their children grow and participate in a host of events of their own.
To say Blevins will be missed is beyond an understatement. He joined our coaching staff in the summer of 2019 as our offensive line coach. His impact was immediate, transforming our offense, paving the way for Nicholas Gardinera's (SDSU) 1,573 rushing yards and 25 TDs. That line also protected QB Luke Durkin (Davidson) while he threw for 2,204 passing yard and 19 TDs. That all culminated in Scripps Ranch High School's first CIF Championship game and record breaking 12-1 season.
Blevins later took over as our offensive coordinator in what ended as the best season in #FalconFootballFamily history. The high powered offense saw All-CIF QB Jax Leatherwood (Nevada) throw for 3,915 yards and 52 TDs, All-CIF receiver Conor Lawlor (USD) catch 73 passes for 1,465 yards and 22 touchdowns and the dynamic Jalen Shaw (USD) who rushed for 1,024 yards with 22 TD's. Blevins also saw one of the lineman from his days as our offensive line coach become an All-CIF player, Ruben (Big Ru) Garcia (Reedley).
"I've said it a thousand times, Coach Blevins taught our kids AP Football. He did that by creating an offense that reflected the skillset of our team, matched with his incredible skill as a teacher, which makes sense because he is also a well regarded and respected AP History teacher at Mira Mesa High School. He was gritty, loud and direct, but he earned the respect of everyone around him and it showed, because the team bought in to whatever he put in front of them, and we have a state championship and the most exciting offensive show I've seen in high school football."
We are grateful for the time Coach Blevins spent with us. We are also grateful to Coach's wife Kimberly for sacrificing so much, when you consider the time Chris spent coaching, planning, meeting, reviewing film and pouring into our kids. With three young children at home, a business of her own and running Mira Mesa Girls Softball, there is no question Chris' ability to give and give and give to our kids was only possible because of Kimberly's support. We will never forget the impact that Blevins family had on ours.
Having said that, normally this addition is made at the end of the season. However, we did not learn of Coach Blevins departure until recently. But, it gives me great pleasure to add Coach Christopher Blevins to the #FalconFootballFamily All-Legacy Team, recognizing him as one of the best to ever coach football at Scripps Ranch.
Thank you Coach Blevins. You are/were simply amazing.
