Here is a recap of the Falcons 34-13 win over Kearny High School in our 2019 league opener.
DEFENSE
Once again our defense put on another excellent performance, slowing down what has been a very potent Kearny offense. Kearny's no-huddle, check-with-me style tempo has created havoc for a lot of teams. Fortunately the Falcon defense was ready. Led by Ethan Nicholas with eight (8) tackles and an interception, Scripps Ranch picked the ball off three times. Mekhi Shaw and Rashad Griffin Jr. also had interceptions. Other standouts included Connor Battaglia (8 tackles), Joey Murgo (8 tackles), Riley Merrigan (6 tackles) and first year Falcon Isaac Rico with five tackles.
OFFENSE
Our offense was lead by quarterback Luke Durkin who was 17/31, 271 yards and three touchdown passes. When it was clear Kearny wanted to stop the run Durkin took charge leading the Falcons in the air, hitting eight different receivers. Rashad Griffin Jr. led the way with 4 catches and 86 yards. Nicholas Gardinera caught two touchdown passes and ran for 115 yards and another touchdown on the day.
